As a choreographer and mover, my work dives deep into vulnerability, authenticity, and human connection. I am intrigued by individuals who are willing to take time to find their artistic voices through self-discovery. I believe movement should come from within and coincide with the natural use of breath. My fascination in human relationships constructs how I want to experience human connections on stage—individuals sharing a present moment together. I strive to have the audience witness and relate to the pureness being shared from the artists in the space. I often explore the idea of being effortless through the mind and body while creating movement material and experience how that shapes me into the artist I am today. I find that when effort is greater, the ability to feel diminishes, and when moving in a gentle manner, the more likely it is for me to notice the small differences in my body. Even though I mold my movement around the idea of being effortless, I still tap into the different ways in how this idea plays into different movement dynamics and all of the physical and emotional layers it carries. Slowing down and noticing is a huge part of my practice—noticing my environment and how I feel. I crave for individuals to slow down and explore themselves as humans and artists, which will allow them to uncover themselves to take risks and have agency on stage. Through research, I find that taking time to slow down and listen to myself allows me to dive deeper into my craft and bring out my authenticity as a person, which I then bring into my performance. I have witnessed that artists who are honest with themselves and who are able to reveal that rawness and vulnerability to the world are much more compelling to me as a creator—artists sharing their genuine self. Being an artist is human and being human is an artist.
